Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Right Writing Words

“We love broken, beautiful people. And it doesn’t get much more obviously broken and more classically beautiful than Daisy Jones.”

Title: Daisy Jones & the Six
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Release Date: 5 March 2019
Rating: 5/5 stars

This is a story that feels so real, I thought for a while that Daisy Jones & the Six existed and made music. Taylor Jenkins Reid manages to create such vivid characters and personalities that at times I struggled to discern reality from fiction, for which I applaud the author.

Her writing flows perfectly and before I realized it, I was a hundred pages in. Billy and Daisy’s chemistry was so tangible that it seemed to crackle along the pages and their stories were as tragic as they were heartwarming. Billy’s arc from addicted to sober tugged at my heartstrings for the entirety of the book and his relationship with his wife was so special.

Daisy Jones, in one word, is electric. She is fiery and she is wild and her character was this book’s greatest strength. At times I loved her and only wanted the best for her, but at times I was terrified for her well-being and wondered how she would survive the world she was trapped in.

Make no mistake, this book doesn’t shy away from the grittiness and harsh realities of the 70s, especially in regard to drugs and alcohol. Generally, any stories containing drugs unsettle me but I held out for this book. I still have no idea how the members of the band managed to survive their recreational activities.

This book was way out of my comfort zone but I’m so happy to say that my first read of 2022 is a 5 star one!

That’s it!
