GPOD on the Road: Buffalo Garden Walk

Today Barb Mrgich is taking us along on a walking tour of gardens.

raised garden bed full of foliage plantsA couple years ago, a friend and I took a bus trip to visit the Buffalo Garden Walk, in Buffalo, New York.

The Buffalo Garden Walk is often referred to as the best garden tour in America. I agree. There were several things about it that makes it unique. First, there are over 400 gardens on display. They are spread throughout the city, but many are clustered in small, easily walkable sections. Second, many are contained on small city lots, and some—like this one—are built completely on top of concrete in raised beds. Just amazing!

a large group of containers full of colorful foliage plantsThis lush garden of Coleus (Zones 10–11 or as an annual) was built on a driveway right in front of a garage door! It was 100% containers and is great inspiration for gardeners with small, urban gardening spaces.

bright pink house with a small front gardenI thought the colors of this house fit right in with the theme of this garden-crazed city! And there was more fun out back.
