“We hunt the flame, the light in the darkness, the good this world deserves.”
Hello lovely readers!
We Hunt The Flame is a book that has been on my TBR-list for years and I’m so happy I finally finished it.
This book doesn’t waste any time getting into the story. There is minimal info-dumping and the world-building is beautifully woven into the storytelling.
The author’s passion and love for writing shine through in her prose. The beautiful writing, along with the many twists and short chapters, help the readers to devour this book without any thought of stopping for a break.
Nasir and Zafira are both compelling protagonists, and the side-characters supporting them were solidly written and their backstories were interesting. The slow-burn romance between the protagonists was executed effectively and drawn out for agonizingly long. Some writers struggle with having the patience to write a slow-burn romance, either giving in to the chemistry too quickly or struggling to build any semblance of chemistry, but luckily that was not the case here.
I will admit that the plot wasn’t entirely original; the story contained many elements and themes that can be recognized in popular YA books, but I still enjoyed the story immensely. The group’s journey through the desert served as the perfect setting for the characters to build their friendships and to grow as people over the course of the book.
All in all, I hadn’t realized that this book would exceed all my expectations. I’m happy to say that this pretty book is my first 5-star read of the year!
